Which Path Are You On? Lessons from the Squatch Collective

We’ve all been there: standing at a fork in the trail, looking at a map that doesn’t quite match the terrain, and wondering if we’re actually heading in the right direction.

Whether you’re navigating a career transition, trying to find more time for the things you love, or raising a family in a fast-paced world, the feeling is the same. You’re looking for the path.

When I started the Squatch Collective, it wasn’t because I had all the answers. It was because I realized that the skills I used to navigate the woods were the exact same skills I needed to navigate a career. I wanted to build a community where we don't just "grind" through life—we explore it.

To do that, we look at life through three specific "Gear Bags."

1. The Professional Path (The Compass)

Your career shouldn’t be something you’re lost in. Through JobSquatch, I use my 12 years in workforce development to help people find their bearings. Using strategies like the Range, Frequency, and Scale (RFS) methodology, we turn confusing job markets into navigable trails.

The Lesson: You can’t reach your destination if your map (your resume) is outdated.

2. The Natural Path (The Perspective)

Success at work doesn't mean much if you’ve forgotten how to breathe fresh air. I spend my time documenting the quiet corners of the forest—identifying fungi, discovering ruins, and recording the sounds of the woods for Sweaty Squatch.

The Lesson: Sometimes the best way to solve a "human" problem is to step away from the screen and look at something that’s been growing for a hundred years. Nature provides the clarity that a cubicle cannot.

3. The Creative Path (The Legacy)

Finally, there is the path we pave for those coming after us. Kid Squatch and our coloring book series grew out of a desire to share the wonder of exploration with my daughter and kids everywhere.

The Lesson: Creativity isn't a hobby; it’s a way of seeing the world. When we encourage a child to color a landmark like Horseshoe Bend, we’re teaching them to appreciate the beauty in the journey itself.
